  • St Martin de Porres Class - Forget Me Not Workshop

    Tue 30 Nov 2021

    Forget Me Not Day: Workshop Programme

    The Positive Steps ‘Forget-Me-Not Day’ project helps to plug the gap that still exists within the national curriculum regarding The Great War’s Black British soldiers and the colonial regiments of Allied and Central Powers and will also explore the contributions of Black civilians, particularly Entertainers during WW1.

    The Forget Me Not Workshop  explored with Year 6 pupils,  the resonances in the post war British Commonwealth migrant communities and enabled pupils to examine their own heritage and understand the interplay across cultures and will ultimately inform the creation of the ‘Forget-Me-Not Day’ Heritage Learning Pack, which will be available for all Islington schools. The pupils had a fantastic writing session, and their work will be shared at the Tate Britain. More details will follow for parents.

  • Sustainability Week - Recycling Upcycling Workshops

    Tue 30 Nov 2021

    To launch our Sustainability Week, the children attended a Sustainability assembly led by Ms Fernandez and Philip Hunton from Green Up Your Act. Philip talked to pupils about the importance of looking after our planet, and how we can help by becoming more sustainable. He then led workshops in each class, where pupils made their own notebooks from recycled maps! A fantastic and very educational experience.

  • Anti-Bullying Week

    Wed 17 Nov 2021

    This week is important – it’s Anti-bullying Week 2021.

    And this year’s theme is One Kind Word.

    We all know that kindness breeds kindness, one kind word leads to another, and it doesn’t matter whether it’s in the playground, classroom, at home, or even on our phones – it starts with one kind word.

    The Bullying Rap...

    See that boy, over there
    Don't like his clothes, don't like his hair
    I make him cry, but I don't care
    He's different to me.

    See that boy, over there
    He isn't kind, he isn't fair
    He makes me sad, but I'm aware
    I'm not different, I'm just me.

  • Remembrance Day 2021

    Thu 11 Nov 2021

    On Thursday 11th November at 11am, the whole school gathered in the hall to

    commemorate Armistice Day, also known as Remembrance Day.

    It marked the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918.

    We respectfully held a two-minute silence  at 11am to remember the people who died in WW1 and who have died in all wars since. We used that time to reflect on the suffering many have endured during the many wars this world has seen, and we concluded with a prayer, praying for peace and end to suffering.

    Prayer for Remembrance Day

    Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict,

    and ask that God may give us peace: God give peace.

    for the service men and women who have died in the violence of war,

    each one remembered by and known to God;

    may God give peace. God give peace.

    For those who love them in death as in life, offering the distress of our grief

    and the sadness of our loss;

    may God give peace. God give peace.

    For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day,

    remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return;

    may God give peace. God give peace.

    For peacemakers and peacekeepers, who seek to

    keep this world secure and free; may God give peace. God give peace.

    For all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership,

    political, military and religious; asking for gifts of wisdom

    and resolve in the search for reconciliation and peace;

    may God give peace. God give peace.

    O God of truth and justice,

    we hold before you those whose memory we cherish,

    and those whose names we will never know.

    Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world,

    and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm.

    As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future;

    for you are the source of life and hope, now and for ever.

    Amen.
