  • Marcus Rashford Book Club

    Fri 17 Dec 2021

The pupils in St Catherine were delighted to receive their own copies of Tom Percival's 'Silas and the Marvellous Misfits'. The books were given to us as part of the Marcus Rashford Book Club in partnership with the National Literacy Trust.

The Marcus Rashford Book Club is a reader-recommends programme created by England International footballer and child food poverty campaigner Marcus Rashford MBE and Macmillan Children’s Books.

The book club aims to encourage and nurture a love of reading in children, and launched in June 2021 with its first title, A Dinosaur Ate My Sister by Pooja Puri, illustrated by Allen Fatimaharan.

The second title in the book club is Silas and the Marvellous Misfits, written and illustrated by Tom Percival, published on 14 October 2021. The book helps children to love their differences and discover the joy of being themselves.

We hope they enjoy reading the book, and look forward to their thoughts and reviews next term!

  • 'Anisha - the Accidental Detective'

    Tue 14 Dec 2021

We were delighted to receive 100 copies of 'Anisha - the Accidental Detective' by the wonderful Serena Patel. These were courtesy of the Literacy Trust and Enterprise. This is in a national project to develop reading for pleasure among primary and secondary aged-pupils, and to allow pupils to own more books at home. We are fortunate to be able to give each pupil in Year 3 to 6 a copy to take home.

  • The Winter Sing Islington 2021

Well done to our school choir who represented our school at the 2021 Islington Schools Winter Sing at King's Place. The event is annual and in partnership with the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The school choir have been practising every week with music teacher, Rachel Mayby, and their performances of 'Baby' by Belize composer Errollyn Wallen, the alternative take on 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star', and 'Christmas is Coming', were simply outstanding. We are immensely proud of their talents! See the wonderful performances for yourselves on the recorded stream, link below:

  • Planet Superleague

    Fri 03 Dec 2021

Thank you to our Arsenal coaches who came in to launch Planet Superleague - They explained how we can join forces with Arsenal in a national virtual to show how environmentally sustainable we are at home, and they also took part in nature challenges around the school. They also took part in some excellent workshops in class teaching them how to be more sustainable.

    Please see their information below:

The pupils have been taking part in weekly education sessions with Arsenal in the Community this term and will be discussing sustainability and how it can positively impact their school and local community, as part of this.

Ever felt you’d like to do your bit for the planet, but it’s just too difficult?

Here’s the answer. Planet Super League is an online tournament where children take part in fun, weekly, educational activities for six weeks.
