  • Little Bad Man Author Humza Arshad visited Blessed Sacrament School

    Fri 23 Sep 2022

We were delighted to have a special visitor in the form of well-known children's author Humza Arsad. He met with KS2 pupils and talked about how he became a writer and what his inspirations for stories are, the pupils were given the opportunity to draw his main character 'Little Bad Man' in the style of his illustrator Aleksei Bitskoff, and he treated us all to a reading from his first book of the series. Student Council and Class Librarians got to talk to Humza afterwards, get books signed and had a group photo. We thank the National Literacy Trust for this wonderful opportunity and we will keep our school community informed of more Get Islington Reading projects this year.

  • As if By Magic - Science Presentations KS1 and KS2

    Fri 23 Sep 2022

The children were truly inspired by the fantastic presentation “AS IF BY MAGIC”,  delivered by Dr Andrew Szydlo (Highgate School). The object of the lecture was to introduce chemistry as a fascinating science, which sought to explain some “magical” changes when substances change into different substances. The children were truly mesmerised by the interactive and exciting experiments, and Dr Szydio gave each one a contextual relevance with its place in history and geography. The children (and teachers!) learned many new fascinating facts. We learned the components of air, about magic water, and how colour changes when “waters” are mixed. We learned about magic fire - how burning can make different things happen, and disappearing water, and about carbon dioxide – the heavy gas that makes plants grow. This has kick-started our science learning this term, and we look forward to the many experiments the pupils will be investigating of their own!
